Isolation gowns and surgical gowns are both medical protective equipment, so we often confuse the two, and even some medical staff will confuse gowns and surgical gowns.

Surgical gowns are used by personnel in medical operating rooms or decontamination laboratories. It is used for one-time use in operations where it is known that there is no infectious virus in the blood of the patient. It is used to wear on surgeons and wipe nurses to prevent the dander on the doctor's body from spreading to the open surgical wound and the body fluids of the surgical patient to spread to the medical staff, and play a two-way biological protection role. The product is not sterilized when it leaves the factory, and can be used after sterilization by the user unit. After sterilization, it can be reused.

The isolation gown refers to protective equipment used to protect medical staff from being contaminated by blood, body fluids and other infectious substances, or to protect recruits from infection. Isolation gowns should be open behind to cover clothes and exposed skin. It is often used in operations where blood and body fluid splashes are likely to occur, when contacting patients with infectious diseases spread by contact, patients with multi-drug resistant bacteria, and when implementing protective isolation for patients with extensive burns and bone marrow transplants. Isolation gowns used in clinical practice are mostly cloth materials, and usually cannot be discarded after being worn once.

When cleaning up the vomit of HIV-infected persons, medical personnel are at risk of being contaminated by the patient’s vomit, so they need to wear gloves and gowns.

Multi-drug-resistant bacteria such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE), etc., mainly spread by contact, so patients with multi-drug resistant bacteria should be isolated in a single room or the same Pathogens are intensively treated. Wear protective goggles when performing close-range operations such as sputum suction and tracheal intubation. Wear protective gowns when working clothes may be contaminated.

In the morning care of patients with diabetes and HBV, the risk of exposure to blood and body fluids is low, and there is no need to wear isolation gowns.

In general, whether it is surgical gowns or isolation gowns, there are certain standards for appearance, material, performance, specifications, etc. The products must be produced in strict accordance with the standards.
