What's the deal with the indwelling needle in the operating theatre? And how does it work?
The indwelling needle is not an ordinary steel needle, it is also known as intravenous cannula needle, is the most clinically used intravenous drug delivery tools, by the stainless steel needle core, soft outer sleeve tube and plastic needle seat composition.
How it is used: The catheter and core are inserted into the blood vessel. When the catheter is delivered into the blood vessel, the core is withdrawn and only the soft tube is left in the blood vessel so that the infusion treatment can be carried out.
There are several reasons why thicker diameter indwelling needles need to be preferred in the operating theatre:
1. Surgical patients have a preoperative time requirement of abstinence from drinking and fasting, and need to replenish sufficient fluid volume before anaesthesia to improve surgical tolerance. Ensure the smoothness of surgical intravenous fluid pipeline, so give preference to thick indwelling needles.
2. the need of anaesthesia medication, some anaesthetics have high vascular irritation and obvious pain, and large intravenous access can reduce pain irritation.
3. to cope with various surgical risks and anaesthesia risks. Once an emergency situation occurs during the operation, such as anaesthetic drug allergy, haemorrhage and other situations need to be rescued immediately to achieve rapid drug administration, blood transfusion and fluid transfusion effect. This is a high-speed and effective life-saving channel. 4.
4. It can increase the mobility of the infusion limb and reduce the pain of repeated puncture of patients before surgery.
The requirements of intravenous rehydration in the operating room are higher than those of general clinical departments, and it is necessary to establish a pass, fast, high-flow, easy to give drugs, controllable and fixed intravenous access, which is the most basic protection of the patient's life. Therefore, we still have to give up and re-establish the infusion channel which is dripping but not smooth.
