There are four ways to hold the Scalpel:
The first method is: holding the bow
It is the most commonly used method of holding a knife, with a wide and flexible range of movements, involving the entire upper limb with force, but mainly concentrated in the wrist, mainly used for larger incisions in the chest and abdomen.
The second type is: brushstroke technique
This grip method is gentle and forceful, with flexible and accurate operation, making it easy to control the movement of the knife. Its movements and strength are mainly in the fingers. Used for short incisions and fine surgeries, such as dissecting blood vessels, nerves, and incising peritoneum.
The third type is: grasping method
Hold the handle with all hands, and pinch the notches on the handle tightly with your thumb and index finger. This method of controlling the knife is relatively stable. The main moving point of the operation is the Shoulder joint. Used for surgeries with a wide cutting range, deep incision site, and high force requirements, such as amputation, tendon incision, etc.
The fourth method is the reverse flip method
It is a conversion form of the brushstroke method, with the blade pointing upwards to open the superficial skin and avoid damaging deep tissues. The focus of the operation is on the fingers, commonly used for superficial abscess incision.
