According to the U.S. "Washington Post" reported on the 7th, the U.S. Mayor of New York City Adams issued a statement on the same day, said that due to the smoke of the Canadian Hill Fire enveloped New York City, the elderly and residents with heart and respiratory problems are advised to wear N95/KN95 masks outside.

The statement said precautionary measures will be taken to protect the health of New Yorkers and out of an abundance of caution, while at the same time urging people to stay indoors if possible. New York City officials said this may be the first time in recent decades that the city has advised residents to wear masks outdoors because of air quality concerns.

According to the U.S. Air Quality Index published by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the air quality in New York City was considered "very unhealthy" earlier in the day. As of 12:00 a.m. that day, the city's air quality index was 226, and the U.S. media showed images of New York City engulfed in orange smoke.
