I. Design Background
As a microbiological barrier, medical paper-plastic packaging has been widely used in clinical practice because of its advantages such as good air permeability, easy identification of packaged items, easy observation of sterilisation effect, ease of use, lower cost and long sterile storage time. Some studies have suggested that pressure steam sterilisation should be preferred for high temperature resistant items. However, a large amount of condensate will be generated during the sterilisation process, which can easily lead to the phenomenon of wet packages of paper-plastic packaging items, which can cause rusting of the instruments in the package, affect the service life of the instruments and increase the loss of instruments; in the worst case, it can cause infection of the patients.
In response to this situation, Jin Minzhi from Ruijin Hospital of Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine and others made their own sterilisation loading separator according to the characteristics of medical paper-plastic packaging and the requirements of sterilisation loading.
Application effect
Medical paper-plastic packaging bags of appropriate specifications were used, sealed with a paper-plastic sealing machine, the width of the sealing place was ≥0.6 cm, and the two ends of the instruments inside the bag were ≥2.5 cm from the sealing place, and all the loading personnel received professional training.
According to the random number table method, the research subjects were divided into the observation group and the control group, 150 pieces in each group, the observation group used the sterilisation loading separator to load the paper-plastic packaging items, and the control group used the traditional basket to load the paper-plastic packaging items, and all the items were sterilised by EVOLUTION pressure steam steriliser, and the physical parameters of the sterilisation were within the normal range, and the steam quality was qualified by the regular inspection. After the completion of the sterilisation procedure of the medical paper-plastic packaging sterilisation kit, it was cooled down for 30min under the environment of temperature ≤24℃ and relative humidity ≤70% and then observed.
Comparison of the application effect of the two groups
1. Lower wet pack rate in the observation group
The observation group and the control group each included 150 paper-plastic packaging articles, the observation group had 2 wet packages (1.33%), and the control group had 22 wet packages (14.66%), and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (χ2=18.12, P<0.001).
2. Higher satisfaction of sterilisation operators in the observation group
The observation group and control group each surveyed 65 sterilisation operators, the number of satisfied people in the observation group was 63 (96.92%), and the number of satisfied people in the control group was 46 (70.77%), and the difference was statistically significant when comparing the two groups (χ2=16.41, P<0.001).
III. Advantages of the improvement
1. Design
The sterilisation loading divider is made of stainless steel welding, and the middle partition interval is 3cm, which can prevent the items from tilting and falling down; the two sides of the loading divider are open, and the paper-plastic packaging items of 3~30cm can be used. Compared with the traditional basket, the operator only needs to put the sterilisation packages of medical paper-plastic packaging vertically in the corresponding partitions, which is easy to operate and saves time and effort.
2. Application
Due to the inability to fix the sterilised items, medical paper-plastic packaging sterilization package in the traditional basket flat or tilted placed, the spacing between the sterilization package is small, pressure steam sterilization drying stage, due to the sterilization package next to each other, the steam flow is impeded, resulting in residual condensate inside the package and produce a wet package. Homemade sterilisation loading separator makes the paper-plastic sterilisation packages put vertically in the loading separator, leaving enough space between the sterilisation packages due to the partition support, the steam is easy to enter the sterilisation, and the cold air is easy to be discharged, so that it can be fully dried, and it significantly reduces the rate of wet packages of the sterilised articles.
