Just now, BC Children's Hospital released 5 children died from the flu in November alone, more than in previous years! Waiting times at BC Children's Hospital have soared to 10 hours to see patients, with an average of 6900 patients rushing into major emergency rooms every day across the province.
Today, another B.C. child was reported dead from the flu and strep throat, a virus that has now killed nine children in the U.K.! This tricky disease will likely start spreading across Canada!
According to News1130, the family lives in Kelowna and their 9-year-old little girl died last Tuesday at a Kelowna hospital.
The family says the youngest daughter had terrible flu symptoms on Nov. 26, including fever, dehydration, nausea, and a severe rash.
Doctors said the child had contracted the flu and was treated for it.
With such a large outbreak of Streptococcus A infections, the UK is already experiencing a shortage of antibiotics!
The UK Health Authority is now urging doctors to lower the "prescribing threshold" and prescribe antibiotics to all children suspected of having Strep A, as antibiotics can often easily repel the bacteria in the early stages of infection.
Currently in the UK, three antibiotics used to fight infections, including amoxicillin and penicillin, are in short supply, and some will not even be guaranteed until 2023. Pharmacists are having to turn away parents who come in to buy medication for their children because the drugs have long been off the market and are not available anywhere.
