In our work, we often come across patients who ask, "What is the 'strength' of enhanced CT?" Let's take a look at the clinical utility of enhanced CT.
What is Enhanced CT?
Enhanced CT refers to the method of scanning at different periods after intravenously injecting a "drug" (organic iodine contrast agent), which is beneficial to the discovery of lesions not shown on plain scanning or not clearly shown, and helps to localize and qualitatively diagnose lesions through the presence or absence of enhancement and enhancement-time change curves. The use of exogenous contrast agents to enhance the contrast between the density difference between the lesion and the neighboring normal tissues (black and white), which facilitates the doctor to identify the truth behind the black and white world (to find the cause of the disease).
What are the clinical effects of enhanced CT?
I. Improve the detection rate of small lesions, especially those that are difficult to be detected by plain scanning.
Identify the nature of lesions and improve the diagnosis of diseases.
Detecting vascular lesions
1、Abnormal vascular origin and travel
2, Abnormal vascular morphology
3、Detecting and identifying intravascular lesions
CT enhancement examination is applicable to all systems of the body, through the CT value of high and low (black and white) can initially show the different tissue components of the lesion, accurately determine the nature of the lesion tissue, boundaries and adjoining relationship with the surrounding, etc., to provide a reliable basis for early diagnosis of the disease, accurate treatment, and better service to clinicians, so that the patients benefit.
What are the contraindications and precautions for CT enhancement?
Contraindications: iodine allergy, hyperthyroidism, pregnant women, severe cardiac, hepatic and renal insufficiency.
Precautions:
1、Diabetic patients taking biguanide preparations should stop taking medication 48 hours before the examination;
2、It is necessary to stay for 30 minutes after the completion of the examination;
3, Drink more water, promote urinary excretion.
