The most common problems when using latex catheters:
1.Infection
After 14 days of use, bacteria will appear in all catheters. In order to avoid related problems, the possibility of infection should be minimized as much as possible. If the patient begins to develop symptoms, such as fever, low back pain, or a foul or cloudy urine, the patient should be treated with antibiotics.
2. Precipitation
Most of the precipitates are caused by bacteria that make the urine alkaline, such as Klebsiella or Pseudomonas. Therefore, if the catheterized patient has repeated urinary blockages due to precipitation, antibiotic treatment should also be given. At the same time, the patient's bladder should be rinsed with an acidic solution.
3. Drainage interruption
Sometimes the reason for the interruption of drainage is simple, such as a discount, whether the catheter body itself is discounted, or the connection tube to the urine bag is discounted. Since urine cannot flow upwards, care should be taken to keep the height of the urine bag below the level of the bladder. In addition, if the urine bag is too full, drainage will stop. Constipation can also cause interruption of urine drainage. If the above reasons are excluded, the catheter should be suspected of being blocked and the catheter needs to be replaced.
4. Colic
Some patients experience abdominal cramps during the first intubation. Colic in most patients will be eliminated within 24 hours. If colic persists, cannot be alleviated, or has a tendency to worsen, this is usually due to the discomfort caused by unstable bladder contractions.
