China is a big producer of medical and health textiles. Its products have gradually developed from simple personal hygiene materials to high-tech products such as medical dressings, surgical hole sheets, surgical clothes, surgical bags and surgical sutures.
With the development of time and the continuous improvement of people's demand for a better life, the performance of medical and health textiles presents a diversified development trend. Anti-virus, anti-penetration, high barrier, anti-static, lightweight, ultra-thin comfort, good air permeability, non-stimulating, degradable and so on become product characteristics.
Perhaps many people do not think that a small piece of gauze contains up to tens of billions of dollars in business opportunities.
The market imagination space is huge
Medical textiles, as the name implies, refer to textiles for medical purposes. But the more authoritative explanation is the generic term for textiles featuring medical applications and based on fibers and fabrics. There is no doubt that medical textiles are the field formed by the combination of textile technology and medical science. They are one of the most innovative and technological varieties in textiles.
In fact, the history of human use of medical textiles is quite long. As early as 4000 years ago, ancient Egyptians knew how to sew wounds with naturally bonded linen yarn. And wrapping mummies with natural medicinal plant-treated fabrics to prevent their decay. At present, with the development of new fibers and new manufacturing processes of yarns and fabrics, medical textiles are also moving towards a wider range of applications.
According to the statistics of China Industrial Textiles Industry Association, from 2002 to 2010, China's medical and health textiles industry grew faster than 20%, and its export growth rate exceeded 29%.
At the same time, with the rapid development of medical textile materials, it has also been widely used in tissue regeneration, bone filling regeneration, trauma treatment, biological adhesives, radiotherapy, dialysis and filtration, cosmetic surgery and other fields with development potential.
But at present, the comprehensive technical properties of Chinese medical textiles can not fully meet the demand, especially in the field of implantable textiles for surgery and textiles for in vitro filtration, currently mainly rely on imports. At the same time, the application of domestic hospitals and health institutions has not really opened up, and its application prospects need to be vigorously expanded.
Because of its late start, China's market share of medical materials accounts for about 2% of the world market. According to the statistical data of the Center for Quality Supervision and Inspection of Medical Devices, China Institute for the Verification of Pharmaceutical and Biological Products, the localization rate of most domestic medical textiles in the field of surgical implantable and in vitro filtration textiles, especially in the field of artificial organ medical devices (including textile structural products), is very low. Experts predict that the industry will grow at a rate of more than 15% in the next 15 to 20 years.
It can be said that in the field of medical textiles, industry development has huge imagination space and market opportunities.
